Changes in farm structure between 2000 and 2013

Concerning the structure of Hungarian agriculture, the number of private farms de-clined sharply between 2000 and 2013, while the number of enterprises has not changed significantly. The decline primarily occurred in the number of small farms producing for their own consumption. In this context, regarding the agricultural area used by private farms, concentration was observed, while a slight decrease in concen-tration can be observed for the enterprises. The number of pigs declined markedly, while the chicken stock rose slightly; the cattle and sheep population did not change significantly. Looking at the gross output, the period under review experienced a sig-nificant shift from the production of animal and animal products to the production of plant products.
