COVID-19 and Russia-Ukraine conflict have had a dramatic impact on global food trade. The economic (e.g. energy and input price explosion) and, in the case of agricultural production, environmental (e.g. drought) impacts were even stronger in agricultural production. At the same time, the significant increase in commodity prices has provided a favourable opportunity for the spread of short supply chains (RELs), as they produce high quality, safe food, and by local producers. Has the food price explosion affected both traditional and alternative food chains? Because of the snowball effect, food inflation should be lower in REL. Therefore, with a proper pricing policy, the share of REL could be increased, but some producers are not even aware of the cost of producing tomatoes, in many cases undermining the market opportunities for conscious producers. In this situation, training/education could be of most help, along with quality assurance schemes and stronger producer cooperation. Teljes cikk
