The Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS) is a system that supports agricultural modernisation, i.e. the spread of innovation and digitalisation in agriculture through knowledge transfer, sharing and exchange. Agricultural advice is one of the key elements of the AKIS, supporting information flows and networking between partners to increase efficiency and competitiveness. This is supported by the European Commission’s H2020 i2connect international projects, which aims to develop advisory competences to support interactive innovation processes in the agricultural sector. Through training courses and cross-visits abroad, EU countries undertake to strengthen their advisory functions. The aim is to identify the needs of consultants for improvements from farmers. The i2connect project country reports detail each country’s AKIS, helping to compare them. It is important to understand the AKIS actors and their links, in particular the Farm Advisory System (FAS), which play a key role in knowledge sharing, digitalisation and ultimately the dissemination of innovation.
This study compares the Hungarian and Polish country reports out of the 29 European AKIS Country Reports resulting from the above-mentioned H2020 project. It presents the essential similarities and differences, with a focus on the supportive environment for agricultural innovation and the characteristics of the advisory services developed in these countries, and then draw conclusions that can be positive for the two Member States in terms of progress, development and development in this area.
