Responding to the challenges of globalisation, places Hungarian agriculture at a crossroads in a number of areas, above all with respect to the utilisation of Hungary’s agricultural land, which is favourable in quality and, per capita of population, abundant. Clearly, different paths need to be envisaged and followed by those carrying out industrial produce production, by family farms and by those engaged in a part-time occupation. Areas with unfavourable conditions can be utilised as a local energy resource. The renewed development of animal husbandry is a major issue if Hungary is to once again be a country producing renowned animal products. The winds of globalisation have not only touched Hungarian agriculture, but have also hit the old EU member States, where new answers and the urgent initiation of solutions cannot be delayed.
