Increasing tendency of ecological farming in 15 countries of the EU as well as in Hungary

The press of the last years dealt with the ecological farming in many scientific as well as popular papers. Majority of papers emphasised the advantages of this farming method considered from the point of view of society and environment. There is no doubt concerning those advantages, however, the economical ones are expressed by an extra income, which in turn depends also on the volume of the offer. In the present study, different mathematical methods have been applied and it turned out that the offer is expressed by the growing area involved as a natural unit – which is following the curve of saturation in most of the 15 EU countries, According to earlier results – which documented the relation between the area assigned to ecological farming and the appearance of extra income – it was stated that the western market does not mean as favourable business for the joining countries as expected earlier. Consequently, the growers of East-Central European countries should prepare themselves to meet the domestic markets, which promises at the prevailing conditions less extra-profit. Therefore, the marketing of selling should be built out and improved, occasionally, the existing growing structure should be changed or new activities should be initiated.
