It can be stated that since the beginning of 1990’s management approaches have changed in many production companies including a portion of farming enterprises. In addition to traditional farming activities many farms turned to the acquisition of alternative income. Over the years the number of subsidised activities in agriculture increased, giving rise to opportunities for acquiring alternative income. Naturally a fundamental condition of obtaining support, the soundness of application apart, is the preparation of a good application, for which farmers in many cases do not have the skill and experience as yet. Various external and internal experts experienced in writing such applications should be able to help these farmers especially after Hungary’s EU accession. The number of applications increase year by year, a portion of which are to aid the acquisition of alternative income (tourism, farm accommodation, eco-tourism, utilisation of bio-energy and other non-agricultural developments). The examples described in this study indicated that there had been no breakthrough in these activities so far.
