The development of rural services

Csörsz, Klára

Keywords: small settlements, lack of services, village and farm problems

The caretaker service “invented” in Hungary is an original and useful solution to balance out the various disadvantages of small settlements – the majority of which are affected by multiple disadvantages. Furthermore, the costs of the solution are low and the implementation of the system was well-received by local residents. The colourful palette of the caretaker service encompasses personal services (e.g. transport to the doctor, the school- or nursery-run, etc.), the promotion of various tasks (e.g. sport, leisure time), and assistance with local government activities (e.g. meals-on-wheels).
