Inland navigation and cereal export in Hungary

Over the one and a half centuries since agriculture shifted from self-sufficiency to producing marketable goods, it has been proven that the surplus produce – due to the country’s geographical isolation – cannot compete against the cereal of countries with access to seas and oceans. We still have not been able to create a cheap water route to a seaport, and Hungarian cereals can still only be sold below world market prices. To make rivers navigable irrespective of the changes to their water levels, weirs are needed.
