In company practice the basic condition of effective and successful operation is the close cooperation between executives performing leadership functions. Logistics roles have come into the foreground. The leadership principles of supply chain management – as well as the realisation and modelling of such principles - have been revalued. Purchasing has become a strategic factor in a way that it contributes more and more to the value offered to the customers.
I have examined the purchasing activities, processes and relationships of the vegetable and fruit processing industry of the Northern Great Plain region, focusing on the horticultural industry. Special emphasis was placed on the place, role and perception of purchasing within the organisations. Based on the information received, suggestions for the necessary changes were offered, pointing out the opportunities for development. This included the need to work out the acquisition strategy in advance, and not delegating it to a lower level of the organisation hierarchy. The majority of the processors do not pay sufficient attention to the first element of the supply chain, thinking they can save money this way. On the contrary, however: neglecting the purchasing process can lead to huge losses. My research and results prove that.
