The aim of the paper is to analyse whether agriculture can an engine for economic growth in Central and Eastern European countries using data for period between 1990 and 2011. Our calculations do not support the positive contribution of agriculture to economic growth. However, we can not reject the opposite causal direction, namely economic growth has positive impact on the agriculture. Interpretation of results has two serious limitations. First, period in question is shorter than previous research. Second, it should be introduced additional variables into analysis to better understanding of agriculture in economic development.
