This paper, based on field studies and literature review, suggests new research directions in adaptation studies. Field studies in two Hungarian wine regions had a major role in the creation of this paper as they directly and indirectly indicated farmers’ impressions of climate change. Based on these experiences, a systematic review of wine sector-related climate change impacts was started, regarding both the international and Hungarian contexts. The results suggest that in addition to natural science-based research projects, there will be a growing need for research within adaptation studies with a strong focus on farmers’ decisions. Such research has not been common in the international discourse; therefore, its possible application in Hungary would fill gaps in the knowledge about climate change adaptation.
