Indicators, Ratings and Trends in Agricultural Higher Education

Of Gazdálkodás columns in 2017, the debate series on higher education in agriculture was launched. Many authors spoke to the topic. In our Current writing we have undertaken to introduce the processes seen since 2010 in the light of the recruitment numbers. Where it was possible to do time-series analyses and set trends. We reviewed the main indicators for higher education in the 2010-2017 period, relying on the felvi.hu database. We examined the weight of the sector in relation to the other trainings based on the number of candidates and their recruited. We also looked at how much training is available and how many institutions are involved in their education.
Based on our findings, it can be concluded that the weight of agricultural education is just over 5% within the entire tertiary education range, which is a significant back fall compared to the 10% in strategic materials. The number of candidates in the first place falls below 6500, while the number of participants remains below 5000, while the training structure is fragmented. It is necessary to concentrate the training structure and institutional structure, with which the tables we have provided may help. It can be concluded that the training sites which have historically been traditions retain their advantage in terms of start-ups and student numbers.
There are training courses aimed at the issurance of agro-specialists with a high level of competencies and practical knowledge (indispensable in Master’s courses), who know and understand the management processes in addition to the basic professional knowledge, and the related economic, financial, support, policy and human policy challenges and knowledge elements, as well as supporting or regulatory (digital) systems at national and international level.
