Bálint Csatári and his colleagues repeatedly examined the problems and breakthroughs of the settlements of the Homokhátság between the Danube and Tisza. The rural area, which cannot be classified in the classical sense, is in great trouble, because besides the threat of desertification, it must also withstand the effects of modern globalization and preserve its uniqueness and beauty. This, however, requires surveys and studies that provide decision makers with the appropriate support and basis for the development of an action program, backed by a financial background, specific to the Homokhátság and being able to deliver sustainable rural development based on the resources of rural economies. The problem of categorizing settlements and the method of it is a long-standing known problem, which is answered by factor and cluster analysis in the SPSS program. This article offers a solution to this problem. The Categorization helps, that the development programs of rural economy can lean on the local aptitude, can be comparable, and their results can be evaluated.
