The Department of Farm Management of the University of Gödöllő Is 100 Years Old

100 years ago, Professor Béla Reichenbach was appointed head of the department of Farm Management at the institute of Agriculture of the Faculty of Economics of the Royal Hungarian University of Budapest. Through various political systems, a world war and a revolution, a change of seat and six different university name and organizational changes, the department has played an important role in the agricultural higher education with different leaders. It became famous as the “School of Farm Management in Gödöllő” and educated several generations of agriculturalists, agricultural engineers, farm managers, business economists, doctoral students and managers. The study reviews the changes in the 100 years since its foundation in the hope that the department will be able to continue its educational and research activities for the success of Hungarian agriculture in the future, but the events of the last decade make this questionable. The study outlines the path to the current situation of the department and also covers the implications.
