Regional examination of domestic agricultural foreign trade

Due to globalization and regionalisation central-eastern European countries have gradually opened up allowing the EU to play an ever decisive role in their economies. Their fraction of export and import targeting the EU exceed 50% in these days. In addition to this, trade with neighbouring states plays also a decisive role in the life of these countries. Our investigations have shown that Poland plays the most important part in this country’s export and import activity.

We have investigated the competitiveness of domestic agricultural foreign trade by using the RCA and FKE indices and OECD and UNSD data for the years of 2003 and 2004. Concerning foodstuff economy the apparent comparative advantage of this country over others is the strongest for live animals, meat, meat products, cereals, cereal products, vegetables and fruits, sugar, sugar products, honey and beverages. The competitiveness of domestic foreign trade in these areas is significant.
