Assessment of local implementation of sustainability

Csete, Mária

Keywords: local sustainability, countryside development, land development, sustainable tourism

The objective of this research was to uncover the feasibility of local (sub-regional, settlement) sustainability, possible resolution of issues, controversies and removal of obstructions. In this study in addition to results so far obtained we discuss one potential turning point, the sustainable tourism. Although numerous studies dealt with rural tourism or tourism in general, few covered sustainable tourism. The region examined, the Tisza lake is a good example indicating that sustainable tourism is a realistic possibility. When determining future developments we can count on possibilities hidden in sustainable tourism favourably affecting the chances of achieving local sustainability as a whole. In developing local sustainability it is important not place all eggs in one basket, because residents with multiple sources of income are better able to create habitable settlements. The maintenance of sustainable tourism can be a factor in the long term development of country regions.
