Our investigations indicated that the specific efficiency of Hungarian farms, their operational and land utilization efficiency lag behind that of EDF and East Germany. In cases of land and work force, efficiency needs to be increased under any circumstances that can be achieved by reducing the workforce involved in production and the quantity of cultivated land. The costs of work and arable land will increase in the future and producers in the interest of increased income need to optimize the structures and costs of various factors. To achieve the objectives the characteristics of these factors need to be studied, because optimization cannot be effectively achieved on the basis of numerical information alone.
