The environmental effects of wind power plants

Rezsabek, Tamás – Schrempf, Norbert – Tóth, László

The experiences of the roughly 28,000 wind power plants operating worldwide prove that their operation does not endanger their environment, with no reports of damaging effects. Green organisations specifically encourage their establishment in most countries, despite the fact that bird protection organisations do raise many objections. The installation of equipment (wind power plant parks) that utilises wind energy could play an important role in reducing Hungary’s emissions. Even taking into account the configurations of the terrain, it has been estimated that about half of Hungary’s electrical energy consumption could be met by wind energy. The current energy policy environment does not, however, provide appropriate support to efforts to develop renewable energy resources. It is likely that only new energy legislation would help those investors seeking to invest in renewable energy utilisation, which would simultaneously mean job creation.
